Under 7's & 8's TAG Rugby

Phillip Kay18 Mar 2009 - 09:45

Welcome to Bury RUFC U.7s & U.8’s Rugby Section.

I hope you find all the information you require on this page.

Tag Rugby explained:
Tag Rugby is a safe, fun and exciting form of non-contact rugby and is an ideal game for girls and boys of all abilities. It is played without scrums and line outs and with teams comprising of 7 or 8 players.

Why play Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby has the following advantages over the traditional games of rugby as an introductory game:
• it shows clearly when a tackle is made and prevents arguments
• it gives a real incentive for defenders to defend
• it improves hand eye co-ordination
• its good healthy physical exercise
• encourages communication skills
• most importantly Tag Rugby is a fun game

What are our aims?
Our aim is to introduce boys and girls to the game of Tag rugby in a fun, safe and secure environment through active participation. We recognise that every child is unique and they develop at different stages. Training sessions will be fun, informative and appropriate for the age range and abilities of all children.

What age do we start?
Children have to be in Year 1 or 2 as of September and up to year 3.

What day & time do we train?
We train at Bury Rugby & Sports Club every Sunday morning at 10.30am prompt unless we have a match, then it is usually an 11.00am kick-off either home or away matches. Please see the fixture list.

Costs:
Please come down to the club and your child will be welcome to join in, once they have decided that they wish to join the club then a membership fee of £20 for the year is applicable, each training session and match cost £2.00 p/session. Club Rugby shirts are provided for match days and food provided afterwards.

What do I need?
If it’s your first session, your child be required to wear any sporty clothes suitable for the time of year we are training (Sept – March). The more clothes they have the better as we can take layers off if necessary. It gets very cold in winter so hats and rugby type gloves would be beneficial. Football/rugby boots are a must.

Gum shield:
The U.7s play Tag-rugby which is non-contact. Whether children where gum shields or not is parental choice, but must players wear them for matches.

When do they play matches:
Children can play matches on the turn of there 6th birthday. This is an RFU ruling to cover insurance. We have a host of fixtures throughout the season. Everyone will play as long as they attend training.
