Match report by andy townsend

On the back of a disappointing result, yet high spirited performance against Thornton Cleveleys last week, Bury were to travel to the always difficult venue of Burnley. Both sides look in the process of building for the future and sporting young teams looking to develop.
The game started with Bury kicking off and an over cooked kick found touch and game the home side a scrum on the half way line. This luck was to continue throughout the afternoon for the Bury side who had had to make a lot of changes due to injury and absences this week.
The two sides continued to weigh each other up and it wasn't until the fifteenth minutes that Burnley were unable to unlock the Bury defence and a clever switch ball allowed the home side to score under the posts.
Bury continued to face an onslaught of attacks are were rarely able to get possession of the ball, partly because of a well drilled opposition and partly from the referees interpretation at the breakdown were ball was cleverly slowed and killed at every given opportunity. This did not suit the visitors who were looking for fast ball to exploit gaps and create mis matches.
The sides were to switch ends at half time with Bury trailing by 19 points. Ferocious tackling from Alex English, Will Smith, Domonic Bennett, Joe Kelly and make shift centre Ed Watkins had helped the Bury pack in their efforts to get a foothold in the game.
The second half continued as the first had and as the game went on the Bury side were further depleted with injuries to Joe Kelly, Tom Smith and Oliver Frechini all of who had been fundamental in Bury's infrequent attacking opportunities.
The final score ended with the home side running out 50-0 victors and in what was to unfold as a difficult afternoon, a lot of heart and determination will be taken from this game and returns to action for Robert Plant, Graham Bigg and Jonny Allen will only boost the squad and give a greater range of options in the Bury play.
Bury will now face another difficult challenge next Saturday when they host high flying Trafford MV at Radcliffe rd, kick off at 3pm.
