Match report by Andy Townsend

On the Natwest Rugby Force Ultimate Experience day Bury were to play host to Colne & Nelson. Both sides have been struggling of late in the restructured Lancashire North league and we're looking for their first win of the season. With a large crowd and perfect conditions for rugby, the opening exchanges were cagey and both sides looked nervous.
The first points of the game were to come from a penalty and the Colne fly half. The penalty was awarded for a dubious decision of a Bury player not supporting their own weight and going off their feet at the ruck. In a mirror of this incident the visitors were to double their lead and put further pressure on the home side.
Bury were to open their account with a penalty of their own kicked with ease by Tom Smith and gave Bury the confidence that they needed. They then went on to score an excellently worked try to take the lead. The ball was secured at the line out by Ed Watkins following accurate throwing in from back row Jonny Allen. The maul edged forward, powered by Oliver Frechini, Jake Eaton, Cameron Bagnall and Mark Blain. Scrum half Daniel Palmieri fed the ball to Tom Smith who distributed to Leo Frechini, Dan Scanlon and Liam Hampson who moved the ball to Dom Bennet and finally Alex English who scored the try.
The opposition were to score a try of their own and the score at half time was left at 13 points apiece and a fair reflection of the game.
The second half started with Bury looking the more dominant and after some great defensive work tries from Ed Watkins and Oliver Frechini looked to have put the home side in control.
But a late flurry from Colne and Nelson saw them come back into the game with a combination of successful penalty kicks, from a reliable fly half with a good range and some well worked tries from their backs. The final score was 21-31 leaving Bury seeking their first win still.
Bury now travel to high flying Didsbury Toc H who were relegated from the league above last year. Kick off at 3pm.
