Bury take backward step as Orrell cruise to victory
Bury travelled away to Orrell hopeful that they could continue to improve and progress. It was looking like a tough challenge, due to Orrell’s recent good performances in the league. The Rams travelled with a mixed side but one which looked balanced before kick off.
It didn’t take long for Orrell to assert some early dominance as they quickly overcame a missed penalty with a try created from good back running lines. The Orrell outside centre cut a decent line through the drifting Bury defence and ran in to open the scoring well.
The Rams were soon to be two tries down as they allowed Orrell to really put them to the sword. The visitors really put themselves about, and some decent passages of play allowed them to slot a penalty over to bring the game to the end of the first half at 12-3.
At the change over Bury were still very much in the game and knew that the next score would be pivotal in the game and the game’s complexion. Unfortunately it was Orrell who scored again extending their lead somewhat against the second half run of play. Some poor Bury tackling allowing Orrell a converted try and a 19-3 lead.
It was disappointing, but Bury then rolled over in the last twenty minutes. Something we have not seen for this season. It was a little reminiscent of some performances in their last campaign as they allowed Orrell to score at regular intervals to finish the game 38-6.
Bury must pick themselves up quickly, with early league pacesetters Burnley at Radcliffe Road next week.
