Quarter Final at Sefton

Now that all the pool games had been completed Bury finish 4th in their league, this resulted in a Quarter Final Plate fixture against a very good Sefton team.
We arrived at Sefton to be welcomed by dry weather but a very strong and biting wind.
The game commenced with Bury facing the wind in the 1st Half, we made the players aware that they need to start playing from the off as they have had many a slow start this season. They proceeded to start the game just as we had asked and drew first blood with an excellent try from Ellis converted by Will.
Sefton came roaring back and dominated the first half with 3 unconverted tries.

In second half Bury immediately hit back scoring a terrific try from Zaman converted by Eric making the score 15-14. From this point it was a very even game with Bury struggling with the size, strength and speed of their prop and yet profiting with the speed of our backs. Sefton scored an un-converted try and Bury replied with another try from Zaman converted by Will. Sefton scored again making the score 25 – 21. Bury tried valiantly to score but with a resilient Sefton defence they were unable to add to their tally.
This was probably Bury’s best performance of the season, even so the boys came off the field feeling they had missed a golden opportunity to progress to the semi-final which just shows how much this great group of lads have improved this season. After the game the referee insisted on speaking to the Bury players and complemented them on their rugby and behaviour throughout the match.
