Last game of the season !

Arriving at Bolton with the sun on our backs anticipating a tough game against a much improved Bolton team and what with Bury having several players unavailable this wasn’t going to be an easy game for the final friendly of the season.

We decided that we would play 3 x 10 mins due to the Bolton having a large squad and giving the players a good rest between games as conditions started to warm up.

Captain - Hayden
1st match
Bolton 10 – 10 Bury
Both teams got off to a fast start with some excellent running rugby but the defences were on top, Adam made an excellent run then Oscar, but still unable to breakthrough the resolute Bolton defence. With Bury still struggling to win 2nd phase ball, Bolton started to attack more yet our defence held firm and on two occasions Dominic produced excellent tackles on the wing stopping Bolton in their tracks. The referee was enjoying the game as much as the spectators and forgot to look at his watch, as the game continued Bury broke the defence with Oscar scoring a super try, Bolton soon followed with one of there own when Zack picked up the ball from the half way line and battered his way over the try line with half the Bolton team on his back. Bolton responded immediately with an excellent try of there own.

2nd match
Bolton 5 – Bury 20
With the team talk at the break emphasising to the players a need to ruck and win the ball in the tackle, well the game began and yes they did listen, another excellent performance, Bury started to dominate the game,. Some excellent driving play and free-flowing running rugby, Oscar scoring 3 try’s and William the other, Bury played with determination and skill, the excellent defence only allowing Bolton to break through once.

3rd match
Bolton 5 – Bury 10
In the final third we changed positions around a little, with our stalwart prop Zack playing at stand-off, he made several telling runs breaking through the line but the Bolton defence holding firm. This game produced some of our best team play all season. The players started to slow a little in the heat and the game stopped a few times for injuries. Max moved into the stand-off position and produced a fabulous performance for the last 5 minutes of the game. Bolton scored another try and William at scrum-half scored two try’s with blind-side runs.

What a good team performance against an excellent Bolton side for the final game of the season.

MOM’s –
Hayden for an excellent game and continuing even though he got hurt (twice)
Dominic for some great tackles and not allowing anyone get past him.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOLTON COACH
Hi Phil,
Another excellent game today. Please pass on my congratulations to your players. It was another fine advert for the junior game with both skill and commitment aplenty. It has been a pleasure to play against you this season. Best wishes to your lads and have a good off season.

Once again, many thanks for coming down today.

Take it easy
